Job Description Job Description Job Title: Heat Mechanic Up to $39 an hour Job Description As a Heat Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing heating systems, ensuring their efficient operation in various sized buildings. Responsibilities Inspect and test controls and systems to detect and locate malfunctions. Replace, repair, rebuild, and adjust valves, piping, steam traps, steam pipes, air dryers, compressors, convectors, and humidifiers. Install and repair thermostats and sensors. Maintain and repair boilers and furnaces, checking water levels and water treatment. Service, repair, and rebuild pumps and compressors. Check gas and air pressure in boilers and furnaces, change out and repair blowers, and clean boilers. Troubleshoot boilers and systems, rod out/clean heat exchangers/tube bundles. Wire controls, thermostats, and motors, and install pressure and temperature controls. Service forced air furnaces and work with refrigeration mechanics on HVAC equipment. Perform general building maintenance and participate in training of apprentices. Drive vehicle as needed. Essential Skills Service and troubleshooting skills. Mechanical repair and boiler maintenance expertise. 5 years of verifiable journey-level experience in the heat field, such as Boiler Operator, Stationary Engineer, or Steam Plant Operator. Experience with control systems and boiler operations. Additional Skills & Qualifications Boiler/Steam Certifications (preferred). Electrical knowledge and preventive maintenance skills. Boilers license and experience with steam and plant equipment. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role requires remaining stationary as well as moving around the workplace for extended periods. Effective communication and the ability to operate machinery and tools are essential. The role involves ascending/descending ladders/stairs, positioning oneself in low-level areas, and detecting chemicals or gases. Ascending rooftops and navigating tight spaces are necessary for inspections. The essential functions can be performed with or without accommodation. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, with the possibility of rotating on-call duties. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bloomington, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $39.94 - $39.94/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
