Job DescriptionThe RoleTechnician will work with other Botanical staff to remove, relocate, restore, rebuild, and install garden beds, rockeries, features, infrastructure, paths, and specimen plants as part of the current Desert Garden renovation project. Essential FunctionsUsing hand tools and operating machinery in order to move soil and plants, dig trenches, build berms, move and locate stones; Installing pipes, foundations, forms, rebar, and sleeves;Clearing and preparing sites, including removal of plants, structures, failed equipment, structures, hard surfaces (concrete, asphalt, stone), and soil;Cleaning and prepping surfaces, priming and simple painting;Assembling and installing simple (usually prefab) structures, pipe frameworks, frames, and forms; Installing brackets, fasteners, cables, shade cloth, greenhouse sheathing, pressure lines, hangers;Forming and pouring concrete, repairing asphalt, installing landscape rock and finished stone, simple mortared block and brick work;Rigging and bracing, hanging, supporting;Maintaining and protecting equipment, ensuring a clean a safe work site, promoting health and safety policies, supporting Huntington protocols and policies;Following instructions, providing good information and feedback, and assuming job-related tasks as needed.QualificationsCandidate must have working knowledge of all aspects of landscape construction, including site preparation (clearing, grading, soil preparation, infrastructure installation), hardscape installation (compaction, forming, pouring, finishing, edging, stone laying/placement), equipment use (graders, lifts, hoes, loaders, trucks and dumps, specialty hand tools), and planting/relocating (proper extraction, moving large material, especially cacti and other succulents, digging and orientation, placement, proper filling and staking, protecting, mapping, and labelling.)Candidate must be able to read competently, communicate clearly, and follow instructions.ExperienceSome landscape construction experience strongly preferred.Classification: Regular Limited Term, Non-exempt; 40 hours per week.
