QualificationsJOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Director of Finance is a senior manager role reporting directly to the CFO and will help support all Finance Department needs, including leading staff, technology, and business initiatives.This role will manage team members in the accounting and finance functions.This role is also accountable for budgeting, budget tracking, forecasting, budget development for new programs, and budget revisions. This position calls for leadership and initiative, creative and flexible thinking, and exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Although the majority of work may be done remotely, the candidate for this role must live in California, and be willing and able to commute to the San Francisco Bay Area or the Los Angeles Area on a weekly basis. Since we have locations across the state of California, occasional travel state-wide to various locations or meetings will be required (5%-15%).
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Become knowledgeable on all existing contracts and grants to ensure finances are accurate, within budget and updated when necessary
  • Collaborate with the Development Team and leadership to create budgets and assist with invoicing and budget modifications
  • Assist with preparing reports for the executive team and Board of Directors
  • Collaborate with the school leadership team to provide financial guidance
  • Supervise direct reports and advocate for and recommend professional development opportunities that will advance their financial and business expertise
  • Prepare forecast statements and budget vs actual reporting
  • Assist with financial audits
  • Assist with collaboration efforts with external financial vendors (primarily EdTec) and back office providers on financial matters
  • Work with HR to ensure accuracy of payroll allocations
  • Lead initiatives to upgrade and improve the agency's finance technology systems
  • Ensure compliance with the law and agency's policies
  • Other duties as assigned

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

    • Knowledge of financial policies and procedures and risk management practices
    • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods
    • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and management skills and high professional standards for customer service and work quality
    • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical or financial information to various audiences
    • Ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations that require sound decision making and may involve confidential or sensitive matters
    • Advanced knowledge of MS Office and financial management software (e.g. SAP)
    • Excellent ability to strategize and solve problems
    • An analytical mind, comfortable with numbers

      EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

      • BS/BA in Accounting, Finance, Economicsor relevant field; Masters Degree and/or CPA is a plus
      • 10+ years of progressively responsible professional accounting and administrative experience
      • Experience evaluating and implementing financial software solutions
      • 3+ years of supervisory experience preferred
      • Billing experience preferred

        PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

        • Frequent talking and hearing conversations
        • Long periods of walking, sitting at a desk and/or computer station
        • Lifting items that weigh up to 25 lbs.; reaching, bending, carrying and stooping within the daily routine of tasks and activities

          ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
          This position is contingent upon:


          • Satisfactory results of a Live Scan (criminal background investigation)


            WORK ENVIRONMENT

            • Although the majority of work may be done remotely, the candidate for this role must live in California, and be willing and able to commute to the San Francisco Bay Area or the Los Angeles Area on a weekly basis.
            • Occasional travel state-wide to various locations or meetings as needed (5%-15%)
            • Moderate to high noise level when in Five Keys locations or partner locations
            • Work environment varies from site to site
